Default WOW World's worst crash test in over 20 years.

I found this over on the Miata.net and just had to share this appaling story. This is basically a cheap Chinese copy of the Isuzu Rodeo and Honda Passport... it might be cheap but at least its dangerous.

Chinese 4x4 gets zero in safety test.

The first Chinese car to be sold in Europe has scored zero — the worst-ever score — in safety tests.

The JiangLing Landwind was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week and is expected to arrive in British showrooms within months. It is already on sale in Holland, Germany and Belgium and has been billed as the vanguard of a new invasion of Chinese vehicles.

The two-ton 4x4 scored zero stars in crash tests last week by the ADAC, the German automobile club, which carries out tests for Euro NCAP. “It had a catastrophic result,” said a spokesman for the ADAC. “In our 20-year history no car has performed as badly.”

Testers calculated that a driver would be unlikely to survive a head-on collision at 40mph, and in a side-on collision at 30mph the driver would suffer severe head and chest injuries due to a lack of side protection.

“This car seems to belong in the 1990s in terms of engineering,” said Chris Patience, head of technical policy at the AA Motoring Trust. “We will wait for the official Euro NCAP results, but if it really is that bad we hope people will think very carefully before buying this car.”

With an expected £10,000 price tag, the Landwind is designed to rival cars such as the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, both about £5,000 more expensive. The Chinese maker plans to sell at least 1,000 models before July 2006.

Yeah, this is a hard one in The Netherlands. They called it the Landwind, made in China. A copy off the Opel Frontera from General motors. ANWB (on the road carservice) makes the test and thinks the car is dangerous. The German tests are better. But with a little operation the car will be a lot better. All cars do know have a steel "bumper" inside. The big point is the price. €15.000,- for Landwind and €30.000,- for Frontera.

Oooooh, that video makes me sick to my stomach.

In July I was riding in the car with my daughter(17) driving when a lady who was parallel parked on the side of the highway pulled out to do a u-turn right in front of us. We t-boned her doing about 45 mph.

Thankfully, we were in my Expedition and not the '73 Beetle that was my daughter's car at that time. And that wreck was why I decided we needed to sell the '73 and get a NB-- airbags, etc. If she'd been in the '73 it probably would have looked like that crash test, or worse.

The other lady was driving a Honda Passport, which was totaled.

Thanks, fowvay. I wonder if this car will ever be on the US market?

Good Lord! Even the dummy was killed!

You know what? People would still buy this vehicle. The "It Wouldn't Happen To Me" rationalization, and it's cheap. Yes, it would sell. Unless the governments pulled it from the market. I hope it never comes here.

Hey now, aren't we overreacting here just a little bit here?? I mean, clearly you can see that the seat belt worked properly, and kept the cadaver perfectly in place for removal..

BTW, that would be sarcasm...

You wouldn't catch me alive in that car.

The scary thing is that they are on the same level of a NB. For example I chosed the 2000 NB and 2000 Passport and compered on the http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testing/ncap web site and the Passport is sligtly better than the NB (BTW I choosed 2000 becaue my beetle is a 2000).

This is a copy of a rodeo and they obviously left out some key safety featurs. Like the bar across the dash that keeps the engine from invading the passenger space.

I would bet that the steel is thinner, that it has zero crumple zones etc.

The only reason it even has an airbag is to keep the driver from seeing the steering wheel that is about to tear his head off.
