I am needing to replace the Oil Pump in my beetle. I have checked two different repair manuals and both say to first remove the timing belt. Does anybody know why this is a necessary first step?
The hose from the air filter housing to the secondary air pump has cracked from age. I have it temporarily patched with duct tape but I want to make a proper fix by replacing the hose. I have searched for a replacement but haven't found one.
Any one know where I can get the hose?
My 2000 New Beetle GL 2.0 has ~176,000 miles on it and to my knowledge the timing belt was never replaced. I'm 16 with only shop experience on electric vehicles plus simple stuff like headlight changes and such.
First of all, is changing the belt even worth it at 170,000 miles...
