05 convertible transmission issues

Hello I am having shifting issues, car is fine when cold once the blue light goes out. It used to be just harsh shifting now it's after a stop having to get back up to speed once the car starts to go into 3 or 4 the gear the car just revs and I loose power. I have to limp over to side of road. I brought it to the vw dealership, they said I need a new transmission that they don't work on them just replace them. To the tune of 7000 for a new one or 4200 for a used one. I have error codes p1624, P0734, P0730, P0928. Any help with what could be going on if I need a new transmission or valve body would be great. I had harsh shifting this loosing speed issue started after I was was rear ended in a road rage incident where they left the scene, insurance company said not related to being rear ended. (I don't know if it is or not, I don't know much about mechanical stuff)
Thank you any help would be great though

I have a 2003 NB convertible and I had the same issue...it would bang into gear when downshifting, and rev and jerk when upshifting. It finally gave out completely after coming up an onramp, wouldn't shift out of 2nd.

I had a rebuilt replacement put in, which had electrical problems and only lasted 100 miles. Second replacement has worked fine for 15 months now.

There is nothing to be done for it except to replace it. Sorry
Transmission or valve body?
What were the circumstances with the insurance company?
They said that there is no way to draw a direct correlation between the accident and my transmission since I was hit in the rear. Even the dealership said they couldn't say that the accident didn't cause this, but I had my transmission fluid changed a year ago so they said that I must have been having issues then.
The problem you are having sounds like it might be a transmission problem. The 09G has a problem on one of its sleeves that comes loose and blocks the feed hole that applies the clutches in 4th gear and burns the 4th gear clutch. When we rebuild the 09g we always upgrade the sleeve with one that a has a support pin so the sleeve does not spin and block the feed hole. Valvebody problems do not usually cause you to lose 4th gear, they usually cause hard shifting or slipping thru the gears.

I just noticed that you said that it drives fine cold. Next time I will read the post more carefully. Now if it shifts fine cold going into third or fourth, then it is most likely a valvebody problem. If it always has a problem shifting into fourth then it is most likely to be an internal transmission problem.
Mine turned out to be a valve/throttle body not the entire transmission. While still expensive, it's way less than a new tranny!
Good luck
