I bought a 2010 NB in December, a Base model with steel wheels and VW hubcaps, which look nice, but it'd still be nice to have alloys. I would want to stick with 16s so I wouldn't have to buy tires as well. When looking at aftermarket 16s (like Tire Rack, Discount Tire Direct, Car Id, etc) I notice that almost all are 16 x 7 as opposed to VW's stock 16 x 6.5. Would 16 x 7s even fit? That may sound dumb, But I really don't know...

No problem.

It's more the choice of tyre which affects everything. Stick with the same size and you'll be fine.
