The side view mirror switch as shown in that video was normal for early Beetles, phased out by mid 99 models if I recall correctly.
1998 VW NB VHS Welcome Video
This is the VHS tape that came with the 98' New Beetle as a visual owners manual(26 minutes long). Interesting to watch for any years! Also notice the window switches, trunk+fuel door switch, and rear view mirror. I've never seen them like that on any New Beetle, must be a pre-production car. Thought I would share

I think it was 98' only, I have a 99' made in November 1998. Then again, mine could have been replaced
