Well, I will need to change out the drivers side motor, since its not working.

Anything i need to know about this before I start?

Supplier?
Are there any particulars that I should be aware of?

Get the correct one. There are different variations of the door control modules, you can't just swap them around at random, you have to make sure you have the correct "color code".

Now if if the issue is the actual electric motor itself, 4 screws and it pulls right out and you can swap them around from other cars of the same generation.

VW window motor: if it works, does the black rubber around gear matter?

Ordered replacement regulator, cable all tangled and chewed up - plugged in the motor, works fine, no wobble, but there's bits of black rubber left in the gear cavity of the motor. Do I need to replace a washer or gasket that was previously there but destroyed by the cable whipping around in there?
