Hi I have a 2001 1.8 Turbo beetle while driving it shutoff EPC light came on and now it will not start. When you turn the key to start the starter selinoid spins and then you get a backfire..... Anyone know what this means.. I coded it and it gave me P1118..."

I am kind of in the middle of the same thing. I found an O2 sensor bad and the throttle body was bad. I searched your code and it is saying O2 sensor. I am still not running and I think I have way more going than yours, but they sound the same.

Do not jump to sensors, O2 sensor issue will not cause the car to not start.

Do not ask me why, but this has happened to a number of people and they disconnect the battery and touch the cables together for about 30 seconds, reconnect the battery and this has solved a lot of the immobilizer/EPC issues.
