I came across this 2001 VW New Beetle 1.8T for sale not far from my home...priced at only AUD $700.
Will be finding the missing parts for it sometime in the future...and then eventually it'll be used for a
daily driver.

I already have a 2004 New Beetle 1.8T (also black) that was going to be used for a daily driver once I got it back on the road.
I've decided now to completely overhaul my 2004 model instead...and only use it occasionally.

This 2001 model I've just bought has been used in the past as a parts car...and is still in basically good condition though.
The guy I got it from said he used the front off it to repair his daughters car that was involved in an accident.
Apparently prior to pulling it apart he had it running...and said the odometer read 98,000 km's (almost 61,000 miles).
He told me that the automatic transmission seemed to be working fine also...as he had the car running and driving at one
point before dismantling parts from it.

The front fenders are still there...and inside back of the car.
Most of the interior , Fuel pump , Tail Lights , Reverse Lamp , OEM Aluminum Wheels , and rear of exhaust system are also missing.
Original owners manual is still with it also...as is the original instrument cluster and key fob.

Great looking bug, I love puzzles , and putting it back together is definitely a puzzle. I think given what we know and see happening with the 01M automatic transmissions I would swap that out for a five speed stick as long as it’s all apart. Good luck!

Thanks Thejarhead...I was going to put in an 02J 5 speed manual - but found out what's involved to do a thorough conversion...so have now decided against it.

It will be my daily driver when it's back on the road...and as I'm riding around on a 2003 Honda CBR600rr (getting drenched when it rains) as my only transport
until this Beetle is going - I don't want to drag out the process.

Also...I'm in Australia and the turbo petrol (gasoline) New Beetles were only available here from 2001-2005 - and are not very commonly appearing for sale lately.

I like that this is an original black car , plus has a factory sunroof...and finding a cheap or wrecked out junker 2001-2005 Beetle Turbo for a 5 speed donor vehicle
is very hard.

Most junkyards (motor vehicle wreckers) don't have any of them...and even ones for sale privately in average condition commonly go for over $6,000.

Then if I was to instead sell this and try and find a black one with 5 speed manual and a sunroof...it could take a very long time for one to come up for sale.

So I will just settle for the 01m for now...to get it on the road faster - and less complicated.

I really want a manual transmission one at some point though. :)

I also have a 2001 Beetle 1.8T automatic with a sunroof . I too wanted a manual but I'm the only one in my family who can drive one and this car will be driven by my wife and my daughter on occasion . If I do get another one on top of this then I can get a manual .

Awesome...all the best with it! :)
Some aftermarket rear trunk/hatch struts that I purchased from eBay arrived the other day...plus I fitted them.

When I got the car - it had none at all...and they were missing.

I have two new old stock OEM New Beetle Turbo S bud vases...and I'll probably use one of them in this car when it's back on the road again one day.

Just organized some seats for it - they're from a 2008 New Beetle 10th Anniversary Edition...

The small metal cover panel (for the fuel/gas pump access) under the rear seat base was missing when I got my Beetle...and I was got one today from a Junkyard.

It was even out of a Black colored one like mine...so it looks original once I fitted it (Even though it's mounted out of sight, and the color really doesn't matter I guess).

Air Box bolts were also missing...and I got those today

The front fenders were removed and sitting loosely inside it when I picked the car up...as was the battery mount bracket and Air Box.

Today I sat them all in place and did a test fit.

My brother and I went and picked up the seats yesterday (that I'd lined up for my car a while back)...and it was around a 6 hour drive in each direction.

I've put them in my Beetle today to see how they looked.

The guy I got the seats from also threw in a free spare wheel and tool kit.

Found on the internet a 2002 New Beetle Turbo in a local Junkyard...so I went there for a look.

Here's some pic's of it from their website.

Between the time the pictures of the junkyard Beetle were taken by the junkyard, plus the car added to their lot as well as their website (less than one week ago they told me) and when I had a look at it yesterday morning...all that was missing really was the rear wheels, Bonnet Emblem, and all four seat headrests - plus someone had butchered the steering wheel center foam rubber area (trying to get it off with the horn pad/air bag still fitted).
Here's some pictures of the steering wheel below...which I was able to successfully remove - and paid only $35 for it.
I purchased it only to salvage the horn pad and air bag...to use on my Turbo S style steering wheel that is missing all of that.

I also got the radiator support panel from the junkyard Beetle...as well as the radiator and thermo fans , front bumper bar cover , bonnet , grille and fog lights (The grille is damaged, as is one fog light...they were very cheap though - so I grabbed them anyway to salvage what spare parts I could from it all).
The bonnet (aka hood in the USA) is good...although the paint on the outer surface is very bad.
It doesn't matter to me about the damaged paint though...as I'm going to get the car repainted at some point.

That great, you found some nice parts you needed in good condition! It is very satisfying, swapping in good parts and replacing bad or missing parts, making things work, look
much better. Good work! :)
