2002 Beetle S Turbo

I am looking at this car at a dealer here. Are there any big *cons to look out for with this model? The car has 80k. When is the timing belt going to be due? Is there anything specific I should be sure to check out with this car?

If I get this one I will probably be a regular on the forums as I do most of my own work. I made extensive use of the mitsu forms for my eclipse.

Thanks for any suggestions, input, etc.!!!

The timing belt needs to be done now if there is no known records. Other then that and the water pump also being done at the same time as the timing belt.
These cars are a blast to drive. Lets see some pics if ya got any. And welcome to the Org.
If ya get a chance you might want to fill out your profile info. You may have some fellow Orgrs living near you.
Also, if you get your TS, give some thought to joining us at the T.o.D. event.

Welcome, as said, get that timing belt and water pump changed asap if there isnt any record of it being done, youll be driving on borrowed time. You will love that turbo.

Thanks for the advice. I thought it might be pretty close to time for a new tb and wp. I am going to see if I can find any detailed threads about how to do it...I am hoping I can find the same amount of resources here as I did on the mitsu forums (RIP - 97 GST - lightly modded. Hopefully my insurance will do me right :) )

I know there is at least one thread here, there are also a couple youtube videos as well. May not be for the beetle, but should be close!

I agree on all counts with what has been said so far. If the timing belt and water pump have not been replaced, that is a major concern - however if the dealer can't verify that they have been replaced, it can be a good negotiation point on the price so possibly you can save enough on the purchase to have it done once you buy it. As far as the fun factor goes... man go for it. I love my Turbo S! I have had so much fun working on this car! Granted, most people aren't too comfortable with disassembling their ride, but for me it's half the fun. The potential is endless!
