Hi all,

I am having an issue with my driver's side door lock module. I just replaced the door lock module on my 2003 Beetle because the latch was broken. After I put in the new lock module everything seemed to work fine.

However, after I put my door back together, I noticed my door opens from the outside even when it is locked. The key fob will lock the door, my key will lock the door, and the door lock light is on when locked. But all I need to do is just pull on the outside handle and the door will open. The alarm will go off so I do not think it is an electronic issue, but I cannot figure out why the door would open from the outside when it is locked.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated... I am going to try to take the door apart tomorrow and try and figure it out, but I dont even know where to start looking!

Thank you in advance for the help!!!

You may have too much preload tension on the door latch cable where it connects to the exterior door handle.

Luckily you do not really need to tear into the door for this adjustment, you just need to remove the door lock cylinder with 1 screw in the door jam as I recall??

Pop the 1/2 moon cable end out of the door handle and loosen it up a few grooves and see what happens. You want the exterior door handle to hit the mechanical stop when opening the door, not pulling on the cable.
