Recently started work on my daughter's beetle (2003 1.8 Turbo) that has been sitting for a couple of years. It was parked because of a limp mode issue that is probably irrelevant. Long story short, put in new battery, activated immobilizer. Fixed that issue by leaving key in and on for a few hours with charger hooked up as to not kill the new battery (so weird how that works) but anyway, the issue now is that during that whole process, at one point, the key got stuck in the ignition.

It will crank, start, and turn "off". Quotations because it doesn't seem to be turning all the way back to off, because the stereo, etc. stays on and the key won't come out. . But the key will simply not come out. I tried moving steering wheel (it wasn't locked), pushing the button on shifter, looking for objects down in shifter, etc, and all seems fine.

took cylinder lock out yesterday, and the key seems to move just fine and come out while apart. used screwdriver in the "barrel" (hope that's the right term) and it seems to turn just fine. but when they are together, that damn key will not come out. Any suggestions? Haven't found many Beetles this old with this particular issue.
