My wifes Beetle died yesterday - she came home in it , parked went back out 20 minutes later and it would not start, cranks but doesn't fire. I no longer hear what I thought was a fuel pump running when you open the door to get in. I can make the pump run by running a hot wire to the fuse in the fuse panel but it still wont start. I looked under the hood and could smell something like hot plastic - I found 1 coil that has expanded and cracked on the top and the first wire on the box on top of the battery has been hot. I hooked up my laptop and it says no engine module communication. Can someone steer me in the next direction or is it in need of a ECM? Thanks
