Hard to turn 2010 Ignition Lock. Anyone ever get their ignition lock replaced/fixed? What was your cost. I should have been more diligent and complaining to get it fixed when we purchased the Beetle from a dealer summer 2015 but did note it, told them it seemed hard to turn, and they sprayed some lube in it. Seemed to work a tad better and having a 2001 Beetle before, always remembered the whole steering lock deal on Beetles was quirky. So I moved on. But one day I am guessing I will need to replace. Curious what others have had this issue and cost to fix.

Thanks

We have worked through this issue with a number of people; typically with success, the steering column lock being the part needed replaced. I would go ahead check the key tumbler for binding/wear and replace the electrical switch portion while you are in there; replace them both if needed (they don't' cost too much; you might as well, since you are paying for the labor to get in there anyway) .

NewBeetle.org is the ultimate resource for enthusiasts of Volkswagen's New Beetle. The site features photos, discussions, chat, and more. - Search Results for 2010 steering lock poblems

For the cost of the parts; you can look them up here with your vin #:

Shop Volkswagen Parts and Accessories

or call/visit your local vw dealer's parts dept with your vin #. For the labor for the repair; your local vw dealer or independant shop, should be able to give you a estimate over the phone.

You could do this repair yourself but it does require the removal of the airbag; which can be a challenge without a special removal tool.
