Good article. I posted a comment in regard to NB/12+ models continuing the legend. I hold the unwavering belief that 98+ Beetles with radiators will displace the old air-cooled Bugs at VW shows within 15-20 years. Prices of meticulously-restored air-cooleds will skyrocket as they become more rare, and at the same time, the Americans that grew up in them from the 50s-70s are getting older and most will be gone by the time an air-cooled Beetle becomes as scarce as a Model T, which also sold millions of units in its day.
Because of the fact that far fewer water-cooled Beetles are being built and sold today due to a completely different automotive landscape than that of 40-50 years ago, I'm not suggesting that they will be the main cars at VW shows of the future, but they will be the main Beetles, blended in with the Jettas, Golfs, GTIs, etc.
