so I've been researching what kind of air filter I want to pick up because my mpg sucks, I'm only getting 18mpg all city driving. So far I've read that the forum is split between the stock paper filter and the k&n oiled filter, no offense but I am scared of the possibility of ruining my maf sensor if I mess up the re-oiling that filter so I'd like to stick with somethig that doesn't use oil. I'm also on a somewhat tight budget (my school is facing something like a 50 million dollar budget cut, I need all the money I can save for tuition :( )

nearest vw dealer is a couple cities from where I live, so I was wondering if any one has had any problems using a filter they picked up from a local autozone kragen oreilly store. I bought some CRC Maf cleaner and figured I should change my air filter while I'm in that area under the hood t his weekend

oooooooooh ...got it now :D

it took me about an hour and a half to swap out the filter and clean the MAF... I thought the hood release was broken after yanking it to no avail  hopped on the forums and went back to yank some more, it popped on the first pull...temper mental little car i have  got down and dirty trying to reach the screws on everything that needed to be removed

I didn't notice much of a difference in perfomance but i guess I'll see where my MPG goes when i fill up
