Alarm goes off minutes after locking door

I have a 2001 and recently the alarm has started going off a few minutes after I lock the door. To temporarily solve the problem, I just didn't lock the doors in my fairly safe neighborhood. However, I'm going back to school soon and I simply cannot do this. Right now, I have just taken the fuse for the alarm sound out. This also stops the windows from rolling down too. It sucks.

I don't want to have to put the fuse in and out when I roll down my windows. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Can I permanently disable the alarm sound?

I would scan the car for trouble codes with a vw compatible scanner but it is most likely, the door lock module is bad. You can replace it or repair it; there are genuine vw and aftermarket Dorman versions.

Read more about what causes the problem and how to repair the part:

Dorman Part #: 931-500
Integrated Latch Actuator
Application Summary: Volkswagen 2014-99

Seeing how a genuine vw part; is $25 more from amazon and the Dorman has some bad reviews; I think I would go with the genuine vw part if you decide to replace it:

There are cheap aftermarket versions; for less than $40 but I have no idea about their quality or how long they would last.

You might also try replacing the battery in the FOB.
