Hi everyone,

I have a question. I recently installed a car amp & sub, as well as a capacitor for the two. My question is... I've heard some people say I should be careful about blowing my alternator, and some people have said I don't need to worry, and that the cap helps too.

So I would like to know if anyone has ever had an alternator problems due to car stereo's? Should I be worried?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks :thewave:

I'm running two JL amps, 500/1 and 450/4, with no caps and the lights don't even dim when the sub hits. Don't see how this will damage the alternator.

dont worry about it too much, the stock alt is 90amps if i recall correctly which is enough for some light duty if your lights still dim look into doing the 'big 3' and that should solve it.

caps on the otherhand can actually put more stress on your cars electrical system. i dont recomend them as they are gimmicky. but when wired correctly in some situations they can actually help. i'd leave it out though myself
