Hey, can you post a photo of how you did your clips for the hubcaps?

I wanna see the clips with no cap on them. :)

I've had the same idea myself for a set of 16" NB steels I just picked up but was wondering how to do the clips.

Awesome look BTW~

I'll have to dig up the pics.... I know I have em around here somewhere.

I ended up drilling and using some smallish hardware I had laying around to secure them, grounded the extra length down on the machine screw so it was level with the nut. Then a lil loctite even though they shouldn't be going anywhere.

I broke a few clips in trial and error (bending the clips for the proper tension). The clips come 5 in a bag and are the cheaper quality, but function fine. I used 5 clips per wheel, 4 hold well enough though on those ones I broke.

I also use an old skool trick I learned from a hotrod web site, and use black silicone (I always have some around for some reason) around the edge of the caps so they have a lil seal to them and don't wobble loose, but can be easily popped off with a screw driver or removal tool.

When I find the pics, I will post em up.

Also thinking I will be using your carpet runner trick on the side skirts, was gonna bed liner em but I think you have the right idea. How close does it come to the look of the old skool style (pics are hard to tell) and how much does it cost? I've got a lot of work to do on all the cars before March.

THe carpet runner I used to use was ribbed just like the oldskool stuff.

Its usually sold in 30-36" wide rolls by the foot at Home Depot or Lowes.

not horribly expensive. and Staples has 1" wide outdoor rated double stick 3m tape.. that stuff holds GOOD. Ask bugsy98nb.

not too difficult to make a pattern either if you can trace a piece of paper around your fender at the rocker.

Yeah I often use the 3M tape you spoke of...... **** works for anything. Using it to keep a DVD player on top of a TV, used it on MK3 side moldings, used it at work, mounted a white board to a door near our fooseball table, etc. That **** can hold damn near anything.

I'm gonna have to look for the runner when I make my next hardware store run.

I wonder what the stainless running board trim length is on the OB's? That would be cool incorporated with the rubber runner idea on the NB. I know those are available in two widths (not lengths) for early and late cars.

it wouldnt be too hard to slice a piece out of the running boward covers to accomodate the stainless moulding.. just gotta have a flat spot to attach it to. you MAY be able to shave the ribs off in the area where you want toapply the moulding, but I would almost rather do it in two stages. first apply the ribbed runner, then mark it where the moulding goes. then either shave the ribs down on it or trim it to the metal for the stainless to stick to.

I'm sure it can be done.

I think if you can mount the oe style clips to the NB "running boards" over the runner material, you should be able to snap the trim inplace.

I was thinking instead of getting the OG stuff, go to your local pep boys and look in the ricer section. I am sure they have something similar. Like the chrome trim you see on some car doors. With the rubber on the skirt and the chrome attached to the edge, would look OG.

I think i am gonna have to get on this. :D 2 month til show season and I gotta get cracking, damn car ain't even running right now.

Ohh yeah and I found 3 widths of trim... 32mm, 18mm, and 10mm

I used them quite a bit for my air cooled restorations (see my "former aircooled collection" thread in "other rides"). Their rubber products are superb quality. The only item I din't care for was their tripple plate show chrome bumpers. I preferred rechromed OEM.

Can anybody give me a part number for the black plastic trim panel that is attached to the drivers side dash, right by the OBD connector, and attaches along the bottom of the panel right by the drivers knees.

Many of the old school upgrades I find on modern beetles were fabricated from vintage Beetle accessories.

Example: The steel luggage rack with wood slats. Vintage reproductions can be purchased new for as low $150. Most owners cut/shorten the legs and use existing tie-down brackets that tighten inside the top door frame. Slap some rubber caps on the bottom of the shortened legs......voila.

I'm looking to mount front fender taillight housings on a 2012 beetle. Yes, they will be operational.

Also, just mount a pair reproduction rubber VW mud flaps to the rear of the 2012 Beetle. It requires trimming the top and altering the metal brackets to fit the newer/tighter wheel wells. The trick is finding the right model because the modern Beetle is much lower to the ground.
