i think we have a resonator thingy btwn our CAT and muffler. I hear the OEM TDI center exhaust pipe is a direct fit replacment for our center pipe but it doesnt have a resonator. so:

- is it really a direct fit, can it be done with jackstands and hand tools?

- does it increase performace?

- will the car pass inspection?

seems like this could be a cheap perf mod. any help is appreciated.

Plenty of people have replaced their resonator with a TDI midpipe or just a length of straight pipe.

I don't know how much of a direct fit the TDI pipe is. Try searching on www.vwvortex.com

It will increase performance a little bit. It'll help the turbo spool faster because there is now less restriction in the exhaust. Faster spool = earlier power

It will pass inspection. You have not tampered with the emissions equipment in any way, so you'll be fine

I say go to a local exhaust shop and tell them to cut out the resonator and weld in a straight pipe. Probably cheaper then going with the TDI pipe from the dealer with the same result.
