Thanks all. I got it replaced, but I couldn't actually get the airbox all the way out. I got it loose, and was able to replace the MAF. Now we'll see if the CEL stays off.

Thanks.

OK. I got the MAF replaced on Saturday and drove it around for a while for a few errands. When I started it up on Sunday, the #$%#$%*( CEL came back on. This time, though, it gave different codes (the previous ones were about running lean on one bank). The new code is:

1 Fault Found:
17990 - Idle Adaptation Limit Reached
P1582 - 35-00 - -

Any ideas on what new horror this implies?

Thanks.

well... maybe throttle position issue... I would try recalibrating using the VAG-COM. It also might just be dirty... can be cleaned using a throttle body cleaner (the butterfly might not be seating bc of build up - that might explain adaptation limit being reached).

I would try these two things first since they're free :)

OK. Great. How do I do recalibrate using the VAG-COM? I've got the shareware version.

Thanks again.
