Audi TT shifter install

Here's the finished product, see below for instructions and the process!

First I ordered this from ebay: ($90)

and this from bugsgogo: ($100)

Then I used my Dremel to hack up the base make it fit over the center console.

I had my old center console lying around so I have been using it to fit up with as I modify the base.

This sets the trim ring up a little high, if that bothers you, you'll have to cut more of the base away. My next steps are to acquire an Automatic shift plate and attach it to the panel trim with fiberglass, cut the hole out and attach the TT base with fiberglass, sand it all smooth and have it painted a glossy black.

I will post more as I continue this project.

This should give you an idea of how it will work in the car

Looking good buddy! Bout to do the same on my console.
How much of the bottom mount circle did you cut off?
And where did you get that top aluminum piece on the shifter stick shaft?

Keep the pics coming:goodjob:

I ended up cutting off some more because the height of the ring was annoying. the second post above reflects the change from the first post, but here is a close up. This was as much as I felt comfortable removing without getting too close to the trim ring fastening screws.

You could potentially get closer if you put the highest point in the cut between two screws instead of directly under one like I did.

The aluminum piece on my shift boot in the photo in my car is just the install adapter for my shift knob. It's a BFI Heavy Weight shift knob. I am planning to cut my shift lever down a little bit so the knob fits directly on top of the boot, but I am waiting to install my short shift kit before I do anything else in case it positions things slightly different.

You can get those shift knobs, and other stuff from

Moving forward, I bought this overpriced piece of junk on ebay. I wanted it fast, so I just bought it, but there is no way this is worth $45!

Then I chopped it up with my trusty Dremel

Now I've got the gaps filled in, I just need to spend some time with some fiberglass sheets and some resin.

More updates to come

Nice. Can't wait to see the final product. I want to change my shifter also and yours is a good idea.
Here's another update, this is no where near smooth enough for paint, but it's all one piece now. it snaps into the console tight is easily removable.

I can't show you on my car yet, because my car is at the shop getting a set of coilovers installed. But, here's some pics on my mock up console.

finished product

This was a lot of work and not easy. In total, I spent a little over $250 on this mod. Keep that in mind if you want to do this. Not recommended for anyone on a budget or inexperienced with power tools and fiberglass work. Definitely requires a dremel.
