What exactly is going on with the engine? How many miles on it?

The engine in my daughters 1998 beetle is going south fast and I need to swap engines. Has anyone with some DIY experience changed one out? My labor guide shows 10.5 hours. Not afraid to tackle it but was wondering if there are any tricks on this like engine out the bottom, engine trans as an assembly or suspend the trans and just the engine...

The oil filter cooler/adapter seal blew out and I didn't catch it in time. A little rattle on top, but a BIG rattle on the bottom under any kind of load. The car has 141,000 on it and the used engine I found at a local salvage yard has 142,000 on it.
