I have a 2000 New Beetle and during the last year most of the foam has blown out the vents. Now it is winter and I have no heat. All heating related components are working properly. I believe I have a blend door foam problem and am going to dive in and fix it. I've seen the DIYs and have direction.

My question is about re-covering the holes in the doors. I have seen nylon patch material and HVAC duct tape used. The original material was foam. Do the doors have to seal against each other? If so, does a strip of foam need to be used on the edge of the doors in order to seal? Or are the materials mentioned above satisfactory for this?

Thanks.
