Is a VW New Beetle that has a build date of June 2001 classed as a 2002 model...or is if it only if it had a build date of July to December 2001 that it would
be called a 2002 model?

Thanks so much billymade...and when I checked the other day - my car came up on that Volkswagen VIN decoder as a 2001 model.

I now realize I've made an error though...and although I thought I'd remembered in the past seeing a marking on my Beetle stating it was made in June 2001 - it
turns out there was no such thing when I just went out and double checked the car today.

There is only a compliance tag for my country...dated as October 2001.

I just called a VW dealership - and they said my car was manufactured in March 2001...so it's definitely a 2001 model after all.
