Hi everyone ! I have wanted a beetle for years. I am finally buying one this fall for a birthday present to myself. LOL Can you give me advice on what to look for and what to avoid when buying my new beetle? I do not want the newest body style out and I want an automatic. I love the color concept beetles ! *drools* :) Please, point me in the right direction. :)

Welcome to the great and wonderful ORG! Many fantastic cars, people and answers lurk in this great land. If you haven't done so already, take time to fill in your profile and post a few photos so we can ORGle them once you get your NB!!

As far as things to look for, good maintenance records, if you have to have an auto go for the 2005 and newer with the Triptronic auto.the 2.5 engine is a good solid engine that doesn't use a timing belt this means less maintenance issues. Good luck and enjoy shopping!
The automatics are very troublesome. If you have to have one, be prepared to replace it at some point. Changing the fluid can help delay this. (Manuals are almost bullet proof;))

Try to find one that's been treated well and maintained by a VW mechanic. Look for CEL and any other dash lights. Do you have a mechanic (VW?) who could inspect a Beetle you're interested in? Decide on your budget and if you're willing to spend some more to fix any issues.
I am searching for a good VW Mechanic in good old NC. I hear there is a good one in Hickory. Hubby and me are avid Dave Ramsey fans. So, we are debt free including our house. So, I have set up car repair fund for our cars too . I went and looked at a nice yellow 2008 this morning. I just wanted to check it out. LOL :D
