Hey there,

Can a 2001 instrument cluster be used in a 99 new beetle and if not, why? The instrument cluster for the 2001 vs. the 1999 look identical to me. I assume a 2001 may have a few additional features that were not available on the 99, but I don’t know why it would cause an issue with the instrument cluster. I do have a vagcom…don’t know if that makes any difference in this case.
Has anyone used an instrument cluster in their car where the part # did not match and how did it work out?
If anyone has any insight into this, please share.

From what I understand the new cluster needs to be coded to the ECU or the car will run for 2 sec and cut out as part of the immobilizer and the OD will be off. Other than that it should work.

the pin-outs my be different and cause a short in the flux capacitor and you may end up in 1969.
