I'm looking into buying a 1999 New Beetle 1.8L Manual Transmission. the seller is selling for 2300, It was 143,300 miles on it. He says there is an electrical problem where the car stops running while driving sometimes but he just waits and then turns it back on and it works. The battery is new so it's probably not the problem. he wants to get rid of it for a Truck so hasn't bothered to see what the problem is. What's the worst this problem could be? I'm not looking to spend more than $1,000 in upfront repairs.

Hard to say. Have they had the car scanned for codes?

The seller was being an ******* when I asked him about the car's history and all that so I'll have to keep looking for a decent New Beetle with a non rip off price. Apparently I'm bothering him by asking so many questions, after he said the car was broken. Red flag right?

If the seller is being cagey, then it must be more than a simple crank sensor, because it cost less than $100 (taxes included) and takes less than thirty minutes to put in.
