CD player has stopped working

My CD player has decided to stop recognising CD's and therefore is not playing them anymore however the radio is still working perfectly. Has anyone else had this issue and is it a replacement that will be needed or can it be fixed ?. I went to the VW garage to me he said it will probably need a replacement but if it can be fixed then that will save me ££££. Also I have seen a few posts about the Monsoon system playing up when you fit in a new radio all together so if I do buy a replacement I want to make sure it wont cause just more issues down the line.

What type of CD player is it: disc change (in the trunk or center arm rest), in dash unit, etc? Are you getting a read error?

I have a 2003 with a Monsoon system and the head unit originally had a cassette player.

I upgraded the head unit to a newer version that has a CD player, supports Sirus/XM and Aux input. I had no issue installing the new head unit, it just needs to be a Monsoon head unit.

There is apparently problems with some of the head units having problems with the gears for the CD mechanism and some head units can get water damage from the top due to the duct work sweating water intrusion into the cowl area.

It is a standard CD player that came with the car originally, don't ask me what type all I know its Volkswagen I am awful at all things car. So when you say Monsoon does that mean I wont be able to get a standard new radio from my local electronic store ?
So me getting a new radio from my local electronic store rather than Volkswagen could cause these issues ? I am so confused.
My point in asking you which disc player is was; is, that the disc changers in the trunk (behind the back seat)k, get full of dust and if you blow out the dust with compressed air, it fixes the disc read error! I have done this procedure; on my car and other new beetles with positive results, every time.

The aftermarket stereo systems; need to be installed correctly, otherwise it can cause problems with scanning the vehicle for diagnostics and trouble codes.

Turn the radio on and see if it says Monsoon on the display before the radio stations pop up.

If so, you have a Monsoon system and you have to be careful what you interface into the system.

You can get a replacement head unit on ebay for a decent price.

Also there are folks that repair radios listed on ebay or by a Google search.
It's not that type of stereo nothing is in the trunk I've only got one CD player in the front, I went to the garage and they said it's broken and it's completely stopped recognising CD's. So I have got an aftermarket stereo just need it installed but like you said I want it to be done properly as I cannot be bothered with any negative after effects.

Mine is a 2006 in dash 6 disc changer. The cd player doesn't accept discs. everything else works great
