hi all newbie here from the uk we have a 2005 vw beetle convertible with the standard cd radio player but now the cd player has stopped accepting disks you place the disk in and the player wont pull it in and if you push it a bit it still wont take it in but if you press eject it will eject the cd you have pushed in the unit says it hasn't got a cd in it so we are pretty sure we didn't leave one in there are there any tricks to get the cd player working or reset the whole unit so we don't have to try and buy an aftermarket unit

any info Is appreciated

Sounds like either the roller mechanism isn't engaging in forward or the sensor is toast. It will be a whole lot easier and cheaper to just buy either another factory radio or an aftermarket radio. I recommend aftermarket, as aftermarket almost always sounds better than factory.

There are allot of places that repair factory radios; here in the usa there are quite a few on the web.

Stock radio/cd head units are pretty good these days; there is something to be said for keeping things stock. You might see how much it costs to rebuild/repair yours.

Stock system is easier.

Make sure you know if you have a Monsoon system or non Monsoon system before you buy anything.

While I agree that they are getting better, I have never heard a single stock radio that can top a good aftermarket. And yes stock is easier, but for those of us like myself who are very into audio, aftermarket is really the only way to go.

Monsoon is a good sounding stock system, not sure about non Monsoon?

Also OE speakers are really the limiting factor I most systems anyway.
