Recently my wife's 2012 Beetle would not start. Like I always do in this situation, I took and had battery tested. The auto parts store test pointed to the alternator.
I took it to the dealership and sure enough the alternator was "short out". It was replaced. I declined the recommended battery replacement because the battery was only 13 months old. Everything was fine but 7 days later it failed to start again. Still not convinced (hard headed) it was the battery, I took and had the charging system tested. The test revealed "excessive ripple" and the battery indeed needed
I replaced the battery finally and of course it will start with no problem. My concern is this excessive ripple.
Could the battery being bad have caused this reading?
