Check Engine Light Below 1/4 Tank

Hey guys, my girl just got an 05 Beetle 1.8t, 6spd auto, convertible. It's got 115k miles and whenever the car goes below a quarter tank of fuel, the check engine light comes on for the camshaft position sensor (it has trouble starting and idling at that point). We put gas in and it's fine, light goes off, and it starts and idles great. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
