I just bought the repair kit myself from fcpeuro for 2003. It arrived in one day without paying for quick shipping. They send you nice emails on shipping progress. So far, good online vendor.
I bought the OEM version as they listed 2 options. It said made in Mexico on the label when I got it but probably that's where VW had them made. It will be a couple of weeks before I can do the replacement since daughter needs the car. I am still curious as to how the automatic drop of the window actually works as the door is opened. I thought it was electrical but looking at the kit it must be purely mechanical when the door handle is pulled.

it’s all controlled by the door latch. Door latches fail, window won’t drop
