Just purchased 2014 beetle. The temp light is on always and is solid red, display shows engine temp reaching 195. Mechanic working on today stated all is ok, and is just a display setting. How do I get this to go away? I have base model, with no controls on steering wheel.

Probably a good idea, to confirm the actual coolant temps, using a infrared temp gun (sounds like your mechanic may have confirmed this but I would confirm this yourself); after that, I would start troubleshooting, by doing a scan with a vw specific scan tool like VCDS by Ross Tech, this may reveal a related VW factory trouble code for the coolant sensor, wiring related problem or failure in the speedo cluster. If the speedo or other major problems; ends up being a issue, you might check with VW of America Customer Care or your local VW dealer, to see if there were any related recalls, silent recalls or sometimes, they will repair things as a "customer satisfaction" type scenario.
