Cooling system issues

2003 NBC 2.0l has been running hot and causes high temp CEL. Suspected water pump since return flow to reservoir was non existent and would produce bubbles in reservoir if blown into. Pulled water pump, it looked ok. Also Pulled and tested the thermostat and it was ok.

Is there any other blockages that I should check for?

Heater core gas been bypassed before I bought this.

Check engine light with P0116 code. No temperature warnings after warmup. Seeing a blue temp indicator for the first few minutes as expected. Haven't replaced the temp sensor yet. Cleaned out passage on right side of head. It initially had a restriction.

I was seeing 210°+ before cleaning out passage and blowing out the reservoir return line going through the throttle body. Last test was showing 195° after about 20 minutes of idle time. It was normally triggering the fans on and off.

All readings were done using Obdeleven.

Thanks Billy. As I stated in my first post I did have a restriction in the return line that I think I cleared. Actually I haven't had anything but water in the system since I replaced the head last year. Going to do a good flush and replace all the coolant and see how things are now.

So, has the water pump, coolant temp sensor and/or the thermostat been replaced? Ok, report back your results and we can go from there.

Water pump replaced, thermostat replaced. They both are so difficult to get to, you would be crazy not to replace them.

I've been a little sidetracked with some other issues that came back. Mainly #4 fuel injector.

So, did you get the overheating issue and/or the coolant temp sensor, replaced?

As to the injector and previously mentioned cooling related problem; are there any trouble codes or have you cleared them, see what comes back?
So far I think the over heating issue is ok.

In regards to the fuel injector issue, this really is pissinf me off. Until I changed the water pump and timing belt the engine was running perfectly. No misfires

Yes, it was resolved a few weeks ago. Except I was getting misfire codes with no misfires actually occurring. Now I'm seeing consistent misfires on #4 cylinder.

So, i guess you need to revisit the misfiring issue; what testing, troubleshooting, repairs have been done and/or new parts, have been installed?

Right now I'll caulk it up to dirty injectors. Ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner with 1/4 tank and ran it a few miles of running hard and fast. So far it's not acting up. Keeping fingers crossed. Cooling system seems to doing good. Still going to do a good flush though.

Thanks Billy

Tested and replaced the fan switch. Cooing system is running normally again.

I'm still curious about something though. I realize you can jumper the Fan connector on the wiring harness, if both speeds turn on does that only point to the fan switch or could the fan control module still be bad?

A new overheating issue has presented itself. That being overheating only at idle. I'm thinking that after all the draining and refills of the cooling system that it has a good amount of trapped air? What is the best way to burp this air out?
