checked all the beetle ones there , all the numbers in the book are the same , except 2000 and up says dsl instead of tdi . been buying dealer ones since they fit . but it seems like i can only get 10k miles out of a filter then it likes to chug when coming to a stop then it idles out after a few seconds , replace the air filter then the chug stops for the next 5 to 10 k then it starts again when it gets between or near 10k miles

Hmmm...there's another underlying issue then. Try unplugging the MAF and see if the power comes back. Could be a bad MAF, could be a clogged snowbox, coould be a clogged intake. You are shifting over 3000rpm once warm, right?

PS: valves are hydraulic.
