My daughter's 2000 2.0 new beetle has a check engine light on that is for a lean fuel condition. The inspection shop says that it likely is a vacuum leak, so I did find the cruise control vacuum lines to be in terrible shape, crumbling in my hands. Replaced both lines, and now when I turn the cruise switch to the "on" position, the car accelerates continually as if you are standing on the gas pedal. As soon as you touch the brake, it quits, but then accelerates immediately after you let off of the brake. You have to switch the cruise to the off position to drive safely. The cruise worked fine prior to my changing the vacuum lines. I changed them 1 at a time, so I am sure I don't have anything plumbed wrong. What do you think?
