hi I have a 2001 turbo beetle.
My cruise control only works when it wants to. I have replaced the brake lamp switch, cleaned most switches and terminals and it still only works once in a blue moon.
Also my seat heaters only work on setting 5 for both seats. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the comfort control module,it's one thing I haven't looked at yet. Everything else works perfectly.
Please help.

Have you scanned the car for trouble codes? A VW specific scanner; can read these type of codes, a failing electrical component will usually throw a VW specific trouble code.

For the cruise control; the switch in the lever can get dirty contacts and have connection problems. You might try contact cleaner first and if that doesn't fix the problem, replace the lever.

I use this contact cleaner: CRC 5103 Quick Dry Electronic Cleaner - 11 Wt Oz., it doesn't hurt plastic and is available at most auto parts stores.

My cruise control; would turn off, on and cause the engine to jerk and buck, sometimes not turn on. I sprayed the electronics cleaner; into the button itself, on the end of the lever and worked the switch (off/on), as I as sprayed. I did this a number of times and it fixed the problem.

It is also known; that the contacts inside the column; end up wearing out and causing connectivity problems, there are some diy's on cleaning/fixing this as well. My thinking is; if you are going to tear apart; the whole steering column anyway; you might as well, go ahead and replace the assembly and fix it for good.

Diy's and video; to replace the turn signal/cruise control lever:
