Hope somebody can help me.

I damaged my thread on my CV shaft where the 30mm nut goes on when removing it.

I'm thinking about using a tap and die set to fix the thread.

Does anyone know what size I would need?

for example 3/4 coarse thread or M22 x 1.50

Unsure if those are the right size just ideas.

I really dont want to have to replace the part :S

Thanks,
Kate

The thread may not be a standard one. The nut is self-locking. I've noticed that the shape of the threads on bolts that use self-locking nuts do not look like standard threads. I'm talking about the cross-sectional shape of the thread, not the diameter and pitch.

You can repair the threads; using a special die or trying a thread file, to restore the threads.

There are specialty tools; to do this correctly, I don't know the specific thread/size of the die you would need. They are sold; many times, under the Kastar brand of tools.

They call them a: "Axle End Thread Restorer Kit"

Rethreader Tools - Hand Tools

You could also; try using a thread restore file, for a less expensive solution:

SKU : 2573 - 3-PC. Thread Restorer File Set - Rethreader Tools - Hand Tools

From what I can tell; the axle/nut is: 20MM by 1.5mm thread pitch.

Example:

NEW Rein Automotive Axle Nut Volkswagen OE N90587602

Front axle nut. 2 per car. 20x1.5mm. Part Fits: Volkswagen: Beetle 1998-07 | Corrado 1992-94 | Golf 1995-06 | Jetta 1994-05 | Passat 1993-97

In that case; this kit seems to have the one you need:

SKU : 2579 - 8-Piece Fractional and Metric Spindle Rethreader Set - Rethreader Tools - Hand Tools

You might give them a call and see if you could purchase the 20MM by 1.5mm die by itself:

A&E Incorporated

Customer Service - 1-800-645-1142

You might be able to order it at your local industrial supply shop or online:
