I posted a thread here yesterday concerning some shifting problems my daughter was having with her 99 Beetle. Had a diagnostic done today and one of the codes that came up was

297 Gearbox speed sender G38

Anyone know what this refers to and how do I fix it?

As with most electrical items, it could be the sensor or the wiring on the car. Also, the above web page makes it sound like VW had TSB's on this sensor (Technical Service Bulletin). I would think that a VW dealer should be able to tell you if there are TSB's for this sensor and if a VW dealer did anything about them to your car.

G38 is the sensor right on top of the transmission, very easy fix, remove airbox and it is sat right in the middle at the top of the tranny.
