The driver door latch electronics were giving us problems and then the window lift mechanism suddenly failed. I purchased both replacement mechanisms on eBay. The lift mechanism including the inner door plate had excellent fit and function. The replacement door latch has fit and function problems. First of all the blades in the electrical connector are thicker than the OE part so to get the plug to fit it involved bending the blade sockets on the door's wiring harness. Something that can introduce electrical connectivity problems. Once the latch was installed its lever that links to the external door pull does not have nearly the amount of spring return force as the OE part resulting in the outside handle hangs up a little and does not pull tight against the body leaving a gap, a potential water entry point. Installing the lift & latch one is basically replacing the entire functional content of the door other than the switches & the window lift motor. It is a very difficult install for a first time DIY as the parts must be removed and replaced in a specific sequence that involves lost of wiggle and adjust action to achieve.

Hey, as much as it HURTS financially; to pay for VW dealer parts, the door regulator and door latch are some of those parts... imho, are worth the money you spend. Aftermarket offshore asian made, door regulators; don't seem to last long and if you buy the repair kit from the VW dealer, they aren't terribly expensive, compared to replacing the whole assembly. The door latch; usually has solder joints that break, this can be repaired, if that is something you are comfortable doing but this is a ongoing failure/engineering weak point. There are many threads talking about this issue and how to repair it, many here... have replaced their latches... multiple times for this failure.
