Having operational problems with items inside the doors; has been a ongoing issue, for many new beetles. We have seen a number of reasons; for these common issues.
A first step, would be to scan the car with a vw specific scan tool; there maybe vw factory trouble codes, related to the door problems. Those codes, may help; pinpoint he cause of rhe problem.
Another thing to check, is the wiring harness; that goes from the. body to the door, which is encased in a black ribbed rubber sheath (the wires flex; every time the door is openes/closes. Push back the rubber cover and see if any of the wires are broken; we have seen broken wires, at this location, many, many times and it kills power to various devices in the doors.
Overall, checking of the door harness; should be visually inspected and checked for power/continuity with a circuit tester or a multimeter.
Here is a diy: that shows how to disassemble door; to give you access to inspect and test things:
Sometimes, we have seen people install used parts from different year cars and while they physically fit, they can be incompatible with the comfornt control
module. Failed or incompatible parts, can bring down the can bus or power and stop correct opeation of things.
So, there are some issies we have seen over the years on these cars and we tend to see the same pattern failires, again and again. Let us know, the results of yiur inspection/testing and we can go from there. Thanks!
