I have a 2003 NB convertible 2.0L, and while trying to track down some front end noise/rumble when accelerating, I noticed the bracket for the transmission mount is colliding with the bottom metal cover plate (not sure what you call the metal shield under the oil pan). It makes me think the engine is sitting low, but I don't have something to compare with. I did notice that what I think is a lot of vertical movement in the motor mounts -- ~ 1/2"+ -- so I'm wondering if this is normal or is something wrong with the mounts. I can't see that they are broken, and the rubber still seems rubbery, but engine weight seems to pull them quite far down. I can fit my fingers between the rubber in the mount and the top of the bracket as I hope you can see in this picture of the right side mount:

I'm going to answer my own question. The motor mount is worn. There is a helpful video here that shows difference between new and worn:
