Flashing immobilizer light

6289 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  thowell
I tried doing a search for this but haven't seen it addressed. I have a 2000 Beetle 2.0 that has a vehicle immobilizer light that flashes all of the time. I just purchased this car and am new to VW so not real familiar with them. The car won't start so I am thinking that the immobilizer is activated.

Can anyone tell me what it means when the light flashes and won't go off?

Hey, IF there is a fault in the immobilizer system; that is why your car won't start and the light is flashing. There are a number of possible reasons why the immo is coming on; to diagnose the problem, it is best to start with a Volkswagen specific scanner... see if there are any trouble codes.

To understand how the system works and what to look for, to troubleshoot the problems... check this website (join the website; to get further access, to member only information):

If you can get your car scanned for trouble codes; please post them here, we will go from there!

Thanks for such a quick reply. I purchased the car not running and the previous owner said it had been broken into and several parts needed replacing so I figured it has something to do with that. I will keep everyone posted and I do appreciate the help.
