My wife told me today that her car made a flickering sound. She said it was coming for the automatic transmission gear shifter. She said it was coming from the light next to the Park. In particular, the one to the left of the "P" for park that looks like a foot pedal. She says the light that looks like a foot pedal kept flashing. She says it might've went away when she pressed on the brake she doesn't recall. The only way she got it to go away was to move the gear shifting and then put it back in park.

I think she maybe didn't have it in park correctly. Could it be something else that I need to be worried about?

You might make a video with your phone; post it to youtube and post a link here:

Members, can then, review the video and compare it to their normal, day to day operation, of the same situation, give you some feedback on your video. A VW scan tool like VCDS; can pull any transmission related trouble codes and view live data, to confirm a problem?

2004 VW beetle 2.0 doesn't have live data with my $300 scanner. Wife says no check engine light. Also, it hasn't done it again to video tape it.

Looks like the Innova scanner has live data capability but a vw specific scanner, is still probably needed for transmission diagnosis, reading vw factory trouble codes and viewing live data.
