Check your owner's manual. My '06 says 40% G12 to 60% G12, if I remember correctly. I would think a VW delership should have it, or a high quality auto parts store. It comes in 2 colors, according to the manual, pink and purple. I found a place online that sells it, but I do not remember who. Sorry.

G-12 only with distilled water

G-12 has all the needed lubricants for our water pumps, bearings, ect. as well as the anti-corrosion compounds nessesary to keep our engines and radiators clean. I changed at 60,000 miles and the coolant mix was pristine and new looking. The tech. at VW that did this service did not use a pressure or vacuum filler so an airlock formed and I did not find out about until the next day. I drove home from the dealer at reasonable speeds putting the remaining jug of G-12 in the back seat. The next day I drove somewhere in very hot weather at about 90 or so and that extra RPM and heat "pushed "that airlock on thru creating a low coolant level in the reservoir. The alarm and buzzer went off and I pulled of the road with the engine running. The engine just did not seem that hot, but I did notice no coolant in the reservoir. I added the G-12 from the backseat and drove home without any alarms, ect. Apon checking level at home, it was low again, so I added distilled water up to the hot max level. The next morning after everything had cooled and the coolant had syphoned back into the engine, I added a 50%-50% mix up to the cold engine min mark. No further level probs. have ever occured again. If no G-12 is around, just add distilled water until you can find a VW dealer. G-12 only cost about $12 to $13 a gallon and our engines only use 2.6 quarts of it. It is the very best for our cars no matter what anyone tells you about compatibility. You will sludge up your engine which will require a whole lot of flushing and you still may not get all the crud out....Turbomania

I'm not meaning to offend anyone, but why all the insistence on VW fluids and oils. The VW engines are not hi-tech, one could argue conservative, and are built no different than any garden variety mid to low price range Euro or Asian vehicle - alloy head, cast iron block, aluminium radiator etc. The power steering is identical in design to generic rack systems. Manufacturers of oils/coolants will tell you whether they have a product which meets the VW specifications. If you use common sense I can't see where the problem is.

At this site www.bobistheoilguy.com there is lots of info about coolant. From what I can tell Dex-cool and G12 are very very similar, and you could run Dex-cool safely with G12. If you were going to insist on using Dex-Cool though, I would completely remove all of the other coolant from the cooling system first and use Dex-Cool by itself (with water of course). Myself, I just stick with G12 for my car.
