Wednesday while driving to work the gas cap light came on, after work it was off. Then the next day my check engine light came on and has been on since. I got the codes from the auto parts store and they said it had two codes: 1) P0455 & 2) P0442. VW wants $140 bucks to check everything but I was wondering if I should just try replacing the gas cap first and see if that fixes it before I shell out Dealership prices. Oh and when putting the cap back on it doesn't click anymore. Anyone have this happen before? (my car is a 2010 Beetle) Does the check engine light automatically go off if the problem is fixed or does a mechanic need to reset it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Most common problems are the gas cap or purge valve. Both of those parts are not expensive; see if they fix the issue and if not, have a shop diagnose it or try to troubleshoot it yourself.
