Hey guys,

My gf has a 2001 beetle with the 1.8t..very low mileage of 30k. The car is very clean and runs good. When the motor is running in park there is no abnormal sounds even if you rev it up. When you accelerate it makes a gurgling sound that seems to be coming from the engine compartment. Almost sounds like the intake boot fell off but I checked and everything in the engine bay is connected like it should. Any ideas what it could be?

Find the serpentine belt tensioner, below and back from the alternator as I recall?

Watch the tensioner while the engine is idling. It should be rock stable or barely move. If it appears to be walking back and forth the alternator pulley is probably bad, it is actually a one way clutch.

Did you check the hose to the inter-cooler.
My guess is the hose is collapsing under boost.
