Hello everyone!

I have not been here for a darn long while and I am surprised to see the big changes here!!

Anyway I would like to ask if anyone has tried to clutchless shift their Beetle. Preferably 1.8T. As a first step, I tried to just "pop" the gear level to neutral but it didn't do it too smoothly. Does "popping" out to neutral without clutch increase syncro wear?

Ah, the slippery slop of clutchless shifting.

Ok, yes I have and can do it. I have found that it required very low rpm's (less than 2500k), and you have to "feel" the gears in.

I have been able to do it, but you cannot be in a hurry. I have both up and downshifted without the clutch.

Now, the "why" you would do it is another story. We only have 5 forward gears, and if you clutch properly, the OEM clutch will last you a long time.

My '01 1.8t is still using the factory OEM set-up, and I have over 80K on the odometer.

I also race my pod on road courses and auto-x'ing, so I am not a Sunday driver.

What I don't do is smoke my tires and race every "rice boy" from light to light. The hard starts is what kills our poorly designed clutch assemblies.

Hope that helped......TechnoTrix'd....:wave3:
