Headlight gasket replacement?

Hi folks,

I'm new to the forum and am very excited to be here.

I have a 1999 New Beetle and have recently had the headlight gaskets completely melt on me. I want to replace them, but as far as anyone at the dealership can tell, the gasket can't be ordered seperately from the headlight lens. (I live in Arizona and the dealership told me that the gaskets just turn to mush over time.)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a source for just the gaskets? I take a lot of pride in my car's appearance and I can't even properly wash it because the headlight gasket smears all over the front of the car.

Thanks a ton in advance!

Hello and welcome to the Org! Before I replaced my headlights, I called the dealership to ask if the rubber gaskets came with the headlights, and he said no, you gotta buy them seperately. I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered my new headlights a couple of weeks ago, and the gaskets were attatched. So, I think they do come with the lights. Good luck!!!

You can get the gasket alone from a dealer or you can order one online from World Impex or ECS Tuning.
Don't beleive what the dealer tells you!! Most are just trying to sell you the most expensive thing they can.
You need Part# 1C0941119 Headlight Gasket. $37.00 from Impex or $36.89 from ECS.
I would go with a new one since used ones will be dried and already compressed. Might not make for a good seal.
Hope this helps.:)

1998 Beetle Headlight Gasket Installation

LOL! Thanks everyone. The gasket info is exactly what I needed. Mahalo.

Hello there! I was able to buy the gasket but mine completely melted so I don't have anything to follow on how to install the gasket. I was wondering if someone can tell me how to install the new gasket please? I hope you still go to this site. Thanks!

Hrm, It looks like about 3 years almost to the day since this thread was active last, besides the one guy that I added a comment 2 years ago. I find this very interesting though that you can get their head light gasket separate from the headlight assembly. Do you have pictures of your new unit? I'm sure with a little help we can get this figured this out. :)
