Although I am not currently a beetle owner, I hope to be! I can't decide between 2 that I have narrowed it down to and I need your help!

My first option is a 2004 manual 1.8L turbo convertible with 79k for $9k

My 2nd option is a 2007 automatic 2.5L convertible with 53K for $11500

Those prices seem high, but price aside, this is something only you can decide. Assuming both cars are in good mechanical shape. Did you have them checked? Carfax? Buying from private seller or dealer?

People have strong opinions of manual vs automatic, turbo vs normally aspirated, etc. There are pros and cons to each. I used to own a 2001 and I have experienced and read a lot of negative feedback on the quality of the interiors. I've read but I personally have not experienced anything bad with automatic transmissions. Both my Beetles were normally aspirated. I prefer simpler, and I didn't buy my Beetle to go fast. YMMV.

Either way you decide, make sure you have the car inspected by a reputable mechanic. If you can get your hands on the service records, that would be best. Good luck!

Thanks! Both cars are at a dealer and include all taxes and fees. I've done research on Kelly blue book and the 2004 comes out overpriced but the 2007 is a little underpriced but is a bit out of my budget and I prefer a manual.

Another concern about the 2004 is that the third owner traded it back in after only 8 months. Salesman says she became pregnant and couldn't fit a stroller in the trunk, that is believable however, there was a considerable amount of work done since she sold it. Back to the dealer, including a new top, repaired oil leaks (valve and oil pan), and a replaced cat converter. They also did normal maintenace like oil change and air filter replacements.

Should I be concerned about any of these?

We do plan on taking it to a mechanic that is ASE certified.
It's a 10 year old car, so as long as you expect to do maintenance and repairs, you'll be fine. Any records on the timing belt?
Thanks everyone for your opinions! I went with the 2004 and feel good about it. Looking forward to being a part of this community, SO much information! Turboturbo, sorry for the redundancy, I couldn't find the original thread and thought it didn't go through.

That's great! Good luck with your new Beetle and welcome!
Per your other thread, you said the 2004 was a tiptronic. That isn't a manual transmission. So did it end up being an actual manual?
Yes, it's a 5speed manual
